What it is
A free, multi-platform community built around IM Julien Song's Twitch and YouTube channels. Members congregate in the BlitzStream and La Communauté de Julien Song clubs on Chess.com and Lichess, play team matches, and tune in to weekly streams. French-first, with tens of thousands of followers across platforms.
Review
BlitzStream is less a single club and more an ecosystem around IM Julien Song — the largest French-language chess content creator by a wide margin. Members can join the free BlitzStream club on Chess.com, the Lichess team, or simply show up in the Twitch chat during streams. All three are free; all three are active.
What works is the sheer gravity of the community. Team matches fill within hours, club tournaments draw real turnouts, and the stream chat gives low-rated players exposure to IM-level thinking in real time. For a French-speaking 1200-1800 player, this is the default home base.
What's missing is structure. There's no graded curriculum, no submitted-game review loop, no weekly homework. Players who want organised improvement supplement BlitzStream with a course library (ChessMood, Chessable) or a structured program (Bacrot Academy, Chess Dojo).
What works
- Largest French-language chess community online — hard to beat for Francophone players.
- Free to join via Chess.com or Lichess; no subscription required to participate.
- Julien Song's streams double as free, high-quality commentary from an IM who teaches as he plays.
What doesn't
- Not a structured training program — members study by osmosis, not curriculum.
- English-only players get much less out of this than French speakers.
- Stream-driven activity peaks during broadcasts and dips off-schedule.

- Chess Dojo
